Grandma Gertie and her crew
This was the first time that Israel Bonds chose a woman for the "Man of the Year" award.
Gertie was a Zionist and somewhat of a feminist. She purchased the her first Israel Bonds issued in 1951, was a staunch leader in Hadassah and an admirer of Golda Meir.
 On a hand written note from the dinner which Gertie attended in NY, she quoted Golda, "Jews learn from the past and look to the future to build."
